Cultural land/graveyard Grabbing of Indigenous Peoples in Eastern Nepal

Cultural land/graveyard, an area of 71-3-0-3, located in Illam Municiplaity-4, is being grabbed by the local government in the name of constructing play ground and health post without Free Prior Informed and Consent (FPIC) of Indigneous Peoples (Limbu, Sunuwar, Rai). The land is being used by Limbu, Rai, Sunuwar as sacred site for the ancient time. This land is also documented as graveyard in the official document of the government.

 Indigenous Peoples Organizations and affected Indigenous Peoples are making advocacy to defend their lands rights in different way. The affected have filed the case in district court against the actors who involved in land grabbing. LAHURNIP and Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Defenders working in the ground are supporting the affected peoples for remedy.
