Kathmandu, 18 January 2026 — The National Indigenous Women's Federation (NIWF) honored LAHURNIP for its outstanding contribution to the promotion of the human rights of Indigenous Peoples in Nepal.
The honor was conferred during the 25th Silver Jubilee (Rajat Jayanti) celebration of the Federation, held in Kathmandu. Advocate Bhim Rai, Secretary of LAHURNIP, received the award on behalf of the organization, which was handed over by Ms. Shraddha Shrestha, Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens.
According to NIWF, LAHURNIP has played a significant role in advancing the human rights, identity, and dignity of Indigenous Peoples at both national and international levels. The organization has been actively engaged in legal advocacy, awareness initiatives, and policy engagement, including efforts related to the implementation of ILO Convention No. 169 and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
In recognition of its long-standing commitment to access to justice and the defense of Indigenous Peoples ’ rights, NIWF presented LAHURNIP with a Certificate of Honor during the jubilee ceremony.
The event marked 25 years of advocacy and empowerment of Indigenous women and communities in Nepal, while also reinforcing collaboration among Indigenous rights organizations
