The Magar Indigenous Peoples of Nishi khola Rural Municipality-6, Baglung district, have revitalized their customary self-governance system called " Sher and Kachahar" that has made a decision on 17 May 2024 to form a task force to carry out technical work of land mapping and documentation of traditional knowledge which is part of work in developing community protocol.

The Magars have started mapping of their land and traditional territories, documentation of biodiversity, traditional knowledge, innovations and practices, customary laws and spirituality rooted in the land management and environmental conservation as part of their community protocol.

They are developing protocol with the aim of protecting and defending their customary rights to lands and self-determination. The protocol intends to articulate community determined values and procedures to deal with the external actors based on customary, state and international human rights laws.

The land and traditional territories of Magars have been plundered by the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve that was declared in 1983 by a totalitarian Panchayat regime to promote sports hunting. It covers an area of 1325 Sq KM that includes Nishi Khola Rural Municipality as well.
