We promote and defend Indigenous Peoples' rights to their lands, territories, and natural resources as the foundation of self-determination. The recognition, protection, and secure enjoyment of these rights enable Indigenous Peoples to sustain their cultures, govern according to their own laws and traditions, and steward their lands and resources in accordance with their values and knowledge systems.
Through legal advocacy, the recognition of customary land tenure, support for Indigenous governance and justice systems, and the promotion of autonomy and self-governance—including the principle of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC)—LAHURNIP advances the recognition, protection, and exercise of Indigenous Peoples' rights. By doing so, we support Indigenous Peoples in fully participating in decisions affecting their communities, safeguarding their lands, territories, and natural resources, and upholding their collective identity, culture, and dignity.
