Advocate Shankar Limbu Honored with Human Rights Award for Advancing Indigenous Peoples’ Rights

Kathmandu — On the occasion of the 77th International Human Rights Day, Advocate Shankar Limbu, Vice Chairperson of LAHURNIP, was honored with the prestigious Dayaram Pariyar Memorial Award by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in a ceremony held in Kathmandu. The award was formally presented by Prime Minister Susila Karki.

Advocate Limbu received the award in recognition of his long-standing and impactful contributions to the defense of human rights, particularly the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Through legal work at LAHURNIP, the organization contributed to advancing the inclusion of Indigenous voices in national legal processes, policy discussions, and the broader human rights discourse.

The  NHRC stated that Limbu’s continuous efforts have contributed to Nepal’s human rights movement and to promoting justice, equality, and dignity for Indigenous Peoples and other marginalized communities.

This recognition reflects Advocate Shankar Limbu’s ongoing efforts in advancing Indigenous rights and social justice in Nepal.
