Land Territories and Resources and Self-Determination

We promote and defend Indigenous Peoples’ rights to lands, territories, and natural resources as the foundation of self-determination. Secure control over their lands enables communities to sustain their cultures, govern according to their own laws and traditions, and manage resources based on their values and knowledge systems.

Through legal advocacy, recognition of customary land tenure, support for Indigenous governance and judicial systems, and promotion of autonomy and self-governance—including Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC)—LAHURNIP strengthens Indigenous Peoples’ ability to fully participate in decisions affecting their communities, protect their lands and resources, and uphold their collective identity, culture, and dignity.
